OFFICE DEPOT EVENT
What to expect
What will the the candidate experience be like?
All candidates are pre-screened and will arrive in two groups - either at 3 pm or 4 pm. Once on the island, they can do one of three things:
1.) attend an information session
2.) play a connective game or activity or
3.) meet with an OPD rep 1:1
Everyone will gather at the end for a beach party on the beach under fireworks.
What do I do and where do I go?
GENERAL MANAGERS
Once on the island, a RemoteBridge host will direct you to your private interview room. There you will meet with candidates for 7 minutes or less. A few tips (we’ll go over all of this plenty of times):
To Move: Use your arrow keys.
To Sit Down: Hover your cursor over a chair to sit down ("esc" to stand up.)
To Move Your Head: If you have a mouse, press and hold your right mouse button (if you don’t have a mouse, hold the button on your keyboard you usually use for right clicking.)
To See the Candidate’s Profile and Add Private Notes: Hover your cursor over the avatar and click on their name.
To Advance Promising Candidates:
a.) Direct them to click “Teleport” on the left of their screen and “Apply Now to ODP”. This will lead them directly into another area of the island where they can apply to positions directly via Office Depot’s ATS.
b.) When you are ready for a new candidate, please open your office door. This will have a light go on and let your RemoteBridge host that you are ready for another interview.
To Pass on a Candidate:
Please direct the candidates back to the lobby where a RemoteBridge host will let them know what activities or presentations are happening next.
PRESENTERS
A few ODP representatives will be giving brief presentations and answering questions about what it is like to work there. A RemoteBridge rep will arrange a time to go over our simple presentation tools.

Once in profile view, you can see their resume or LinkedIn profile, add notes, or give them a thumbs up, down, or sideways
OFFICE DEPOT EVENT
F.A.Q.
Wait? Does this actually work?
Yes! RemoteBridge’s recruiting platform is especially effective for hiring early-to-mid career candidates. Because of our immersive 3D platform we are able to source candidates much more efficiently than trying to drive them to a career site with stock photos and forms.
In fact, we recently heard two candidates speaking at one of our events and one said to the other, “To be honest, I hadn’t heard of the company and wasn’t that interested in the position. But I was curious how it work in here so I came. And now that I’ve heard their pitch, I think I’m going to apply.”
Even those who aren’t hired have a good experience - 88% of candidates report departing with an improved perception of the client’s brand and culture, making them ore likely to be evangelists for Office Depot/OfficeMax.
What will my role be?
As an Office Depot representative, you will have one of two roles (or both!)
INTERVIEWER:
Meet privately with candidates for 8-10 minutes by avatar or video conference while reviewing their profile. Direct candidates to apply through HGV’s career site or suggest they attend a presentation or activity.
PRESENTER:
Give 10 minute or so talk with an optional Powerpoint presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. RemoteBridge will reach out in advance of the event to schedule a quick time to review the presenter tools.
What do I need to know in advance?
Two days before the event we will have ‘office hours’ for you to create an avatar, pop onto the virtual island, and get your virtual feet wet - this should only take 5-15 minutes. The date and time will be announced shortly.
Alternatively, you can also arrive up to an hour before the event itself.
What if I can't attend the entire event?
The event is only two hours so hoping you can be there for most if not all of the event but if your schedule doesn’t allow, you can just come for a shorter portion.
I am not a video gamer. Will I know what to do?
Yes! We have built the platform and the recruiting experience for non gamers. (In fact, the hard-core gamers are sometimes disappointed since there are no zombies or things to blow up.) All you need to do is speak into your computer’s microphone like you do on Zoom or Teams and use your arrow keys to move your avatar (a character that best represents you.)
Either during our “office hours” or before the event, a RemoteBridge host will be available to show you around and let you know what to do.
What does the candidate journey look like?
RemoteBridge sources candidates from dozens of channels, including our own internal database. We screen them all - on average, only 1 out of 4 makes the cut - and those who are qualified are directed to RSVP to the event (here is a link if you are curious).
Candidates are given one of two arrival times (the first hour or the second hour to avoid clumping). Once on island they can choose one of three tracks:
1.) Information Session
2.) Games and Activities
3.) Interviews (every candidate gets at least a short interview).
Promising candidates are encouraged to apply directly to ODP through your existing ATS (via a link on the wall of each interview room.)
The event ends with a dance party on the beach with fireworks.
Can I review the candidates beforehand?
Yes. About a a week before the event you will have access to all the candidates but note that due to scheduling conflicts not all candidates who RSVP are ultimately able to attend.
